Partner: Kids Ark - Medical Clinic

  • Medical Clinic - SIDARA  Kids Ark runs a registered medical clinic in the village of Sidara. Branca (nurse) oversees a team of volunteer doctors from Dili. The clinic is open five days a week with Branca being on-call at any time for emergencies. On occasions, mobile clinics travel to the remoter hill areas.
  • Medical Clinic - LEBUTUM  Recently, a brand new clinic has been built in the remote village of Lebutum in the mountains of Metinaro district. Before the clinic was built just a few months ago, the people of Lebutum would have to walk 6 hours to the nearest medical help. This clinic will radically change the quality of life of the people who live there. The clinic will be staffed part-time by Branca, and medical staff from Metinaro.
  • Birthing Centre Nearby the clinic is a two-room birthing centre. Births are assisted by one trained and one traditional midwife. A close watch is given to first time mums and those with a history of problems. Kids Ark assists with transport to hospital. Mothers can stay at the centre post-natal and are given food, milk and babies supplies to take home. Pre-natal classes are run every Wednesday morning alongside the Mothers with young children program. The clinic is also registered to provide birth certificates.
  • Care for the Elderly Older people in the villages are some of the most vulnerable. Once a week the elderly visit the clinic for check-ups and an exercise program.

The Health field also encompasses other community development projects - water, sanitation, micro finance, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
